History

The report on the work of the Ternopil Medical Institute for the 1958-1959 academic year began with the words: "The historical decisions of the XXI Congress of the Communist Party provide for the further development of health care."

At that time, 868 students studied at the institute: 253 in the first year, 203 in the second year, 181 in the third year, 214 in the fourth year, 17 students were on academic leave, 102 teachers worked, including 3 doctors of sciences, 45 candidates of sciences, 2 professors, 16 associate professors, 52 - without academic degree or title.

SNT was organized in November 1957. The work of the society on behalf of the Council of the Institute was supervised by the head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, Doctor of Medical Sciences VK Tsvirko.

During the 1958-1959 academic year, the structure of the SSS was adopted. The Board consisted of:

- Scientific adviser of SSS

- Deputy Supervisor

- Chairman of the Board of SSS

- Secretary of the Board

- responsible for communication with SSS of other medical institutions

- organizational sector

- editorial board

- responsible for each course




During the same year, 52 experimental studies and 63 abstracts were performed. SSS's work is regularly covered in the institute's press, in particular in the newspapers "For the Soviet Doctor", "Scientist". The SSS Board conducts regular correspondence with 11 higher medical educational institutions. In May 1959, representatives of the SSS Institute spoke at scientific conferences in Odessa, Vinnytsia, Stanislavsk, Lviv Medical Institutes.

On May 18-19, the second scientific student conference was held at the institute, at which 31 reports were heard and discussed. The best scientific works were awarded with valuable gifts and diplomas. Before the conference, the wall newspaper "Scientist" was published, an exhibition of the best works of students was organized, which were published in periodicals, awarded diplomas of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR.

In February 2007, two programs were launched to optimize student research: "Student Research and Career Guidance" and "Student - Future Highly Qualified Specialist." These programs immediately interested students of science. More than 100 students take part in scientific programs, which is reflected in their scientific achievements. In 2011 alone, numerous journal articles were published. Traditionally, since 1996, the Council of SSS together with the Council of Young Scientists organizes the International Medical Congress of Students and Young Scientists, which takes place at the NOC "Red Viburnum". After the conference, competitions are usually held to provide emergency medical care. Every year the congress gathers hundreds of young people not only from Ukraine, but also from Poland, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Egypt, the Czech Republic and Georgia.

Today, the ranks of the scientific society of students includes 50 members who are engaged in research work at all departments of the university. Students of the university annually perform at various forums, participate in the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers and repeatedly win prizes.


Also this year, Ternopil National Medical University named after I.Ya. The Gorbachev Ministry of Health of Ukraine has announced a competition of scientific works for the Ivan Gorbachevsky Prize.

However, the SSS Council continues to operate, hold meetings, webinars and conferences online. About 500 theses were presented at the jubilee XXV International Congress of Students and Young Scientists. 225 participants took part in the congress, including 64 from 15 cities of Ukraine, as well as 151 participants from Ternopil.
